2015-2016 Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra Solo Competition
Concert: Sunday, April 3, 2016, 2:30pm

The Competition

The competition is designed to offer an opportunity to outstanding young musicians to perform live in concert with a symphony orchestra.

Each contestant will submit an application signed by teacher and parent/guardian. Each applicant will be notified of the audition, and will perform for a panel of judges at the Harry Coleman Music Studios, on a date to be announced in the fall of 2015. Up to three finalists will be chosen to perform. Finalists may receive a modest monetary honorarium. The decision of the judges is final.

The performance date with the orchestra is Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 2:30 pm, at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater.

Repertoire

Instrumentalists should perform from memory one of the following:

  • the first movement of any standard concerto
  • both the second and third movements of any standard concerto
  • a standard piece from solo literature that can be performed with orchestral accompaniment

Vocalists are required to perform from memory two contrasting songs or arias from different stylist periods.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN ACCOMPANISTS.

Eligibility

Pianists or instrumentalists up through their senior year in high school and vocalists through age 21 are eligible. Applicants must live within a 50-mile radius of Pittsburgh. Prior winners are not eligible to compete. For more information, please contact the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra.

The application fee is $35.
